Yasmin / Yaz & Blood Clots
A Yasmin Lawsuit is being filed based on the allegations that Yaz and Yasmin birth control pills can cause fatal blood clots. This particular lawsuit states that a woman suffered from a Pulmonary Embolism while using Yaz.
The reason why Yaz is being so closely looked at for its relation to serious blood clots is due to the new combination of hormones in Yasmin / Yaz. These two hormones are called drospirenone and ethinylestradiol. Yasmin / Yaz serious side effects include:
-
Heart Attack
-
Stroke
-
Kidney Disease
-
Deep Vein Thrombosis
-
Gallbladder Disease
-
Pulmonary Embolism
In April 2002, The British Medical Journal stated that "the Dutch College of General Practitioners recommended the older second generation birth control pills be prescribed instead of Yasmin, because of 40 cases reported of venous thrombosis among women taking Yasmin."
The lawsuit also states that in Feb 2003, "a paper entitled Thromboembolism Associated with the New Contraceptive Yasmin was published in the British Medical Journal detailing a Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Center report of five additional reports of thromboembolism where Yasmin was suspected as the cause, including two deaths."
