Mesothelioma Symptoms
The onset of Mesothelioma is typically quite slow. The symptoms of
the disease may not ever appear until 30 to 50 years after the initial
exposure to the carcinogen. A common first symptom is constant chest
pain. This pain is later accompanied by shortness of breath and difficulty
breathing as fluid accumulates in the chest cavity. Other mesothelioma
symptoms may include:
- Shortness of breath
- Pain in the chest (due to fluid accumulation)
- Weight loss
- Abdominal pain
- Abdominal swelling
- Bowel obstruction
- Blood clotting abnormalities
- Anemia
- Fever
If the cancer has metastasized; or spread beyond the mesothelioma
to other parts of the body, additional symptoms may include pain, trouble
swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.
It is important to seek professional help if you are experiencing any
of these symptoms. These symptoms may be caused by Mesothelioma or by
a less serious condition. Only a doctor can make this important diagnosis.
