Brain Injury Attorneys
Traumatic brain injury is a term used to describe an injury to the head
that results in brain damage.
Two types of injuries can lead to traumatic brain injury:
Closed Head Injury
- an injury that occurs when the brain hits the inside of the skull. This
type of injury can occur when the head strikes the windshield of a car
or during whiplash.
Penetrating Head Injury
- an injury that occurs when an object penetrates the skull.
There are several causes of traumatic brain injury. These include:
Car accidents - 50% of all traumatic brain injuries occur during
auto accidents.
Falls - the majority of traumatic brain injuries in the elderly
occur during falls.
Firearms
Sports injuries - only 1% of all traumatic brain injuries
can be attributed to sports injuries.
Traumatic brain injury is not always
apparent immediately after the injury occurs. The symptoms of traumatic
brain injury may not show up until days afterwards. Some symptoms to look
for in traumatic brain injury cases include: consistent headache, poor
memory, difficulty concentrating, neck pain, slow speech, blurred vision,
and ringing in the ears.
