Celebrex Class Action Lawsuit
Celebrex was approved on December 31, 1998 for relief of joint
pain of osteoarthritis and adult rheumatoid arthritis. It is also effective
against pain from strains and sprains, pain after surgery and primary dysmenorrhea
(painful menstrual cramping) as well. It was found also a year later in December
1999 that using Celebrex helps reduce the number of intestinal polyps in patients
with a rare genetic disorder called Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP).
But many concerns have been raised on Celebrex's effect on cardiovascular health,
stroke, heart attack and even sudden death. Robert Roesler, 61, filed a lawsuit
against Pfizer Inc., pharmaceutical company responsible for manufacturing Celebrex,
claims that the drug caused him to suffer an irregular heartbeat. Furthermore,
a Canadian class-action lawsuit has been filed against Pfizer alleging that
this drug caused cardio vascular side effects. The Wall Street Journal ran a
story that linked ten deaths to Celebrex. In addition to that, there were eleven
other cases gastrointestinal hemorrhage associated with the drug. Of the ten
deaths, half were from ulcers, and the other half consisted of other drug interaction
and kidney problems. Recent Celebrex information leads to potential side effects
that are more prevalent and more serious than we all thought.
Women who want to become pregnant should not use or stop using Celebrex because
there is evidence that temporary infertility can occur. It could prevent ovulation
or delay it until the egg is no longer viable, which can reduce the chances
of having a child. Additionally, Celebrex could prevent implantation of embryos
or trigger early miscarriage.
Side effects from Celebrex include anywhere from mild to severe medical
conditions.
* Abdominal pain, tenderness or discomfort
* Nausea
* Bloody vomit, bloody, black or tarry stools, and dark urine, diarrhea, flatulence
* Unexplained weight gain; swelling or water retention
* Fatigue, lethargy or insomnia
* Skin rashes and itching; Allergic reactions on face lips, tongue, throat;
difficulty breathing and swallowing
* Yellowing of the eyes and skin (jaundice)
* "Flu-like" symptoms
* Headache, chest pain, ringing in the ears
* Unusual bleeding or bruising
More severe side effects are heart attack, transient ischemic attack (TIA),
stroke, peripheral thrombosis, new diagnosis of hypertension, liver damage,
kidney failure, cardiovascular problems, and blood clots.
