Mellaril
Mellaril thioridazine has been associated to sudden death and torsade
de pointes-type arrhythmias. A schizophrenic drug, Mellaril thioridazine
was restricted to the last drug treatment due to the dangerous effects.
Patients that did not first respond to alternate schizophrenic treatments
were then considered for Mellaril thioridazine if the physician felt the
risk of using Mellaril thioridazine was offset by the benefits it might
provide.
The Mellaril thioridazine manufacturer had issued an "Important
Drug Warning" to alert clinicians of Mellaril thioridazine deadly
and serious effects. A Mellaril thioridazine boxed warning was added to
the drug as well. If considered for Mellaril thioridazine, the patients
are to have certain testing performed in order to reduce risk of suffering
adverse effects. If prescribed Mellaril thioridazine as a last resort,
patients should make sure the physician is adequately monitoring to detect
arrhythmias and other cardiovascular monitoring.
