FDA: Zicam Nasal Products
June 16, 2009: The FDA has notified consumers and healthcare professionals to discontinue use of three Zicam Nasal Gel/Nasal Swab Products sold over-the-counter as cold remedies. The reason for the alert is because the cold remedies have been linked to loss of sense of smell that may be long-lasting or even permanent.
The FDA has received more than 130 reports of loss of sense of smell associated with the use of the three Zicam products!
In these reports, consumers have complained that they have experienced a loss of smell and it occurred within the first dose; and others stated that it occurred after multiple uses of the product.
